FCSAR Team Completes Avalanche Awareness Training

Republic, WA Feb. 27. Thirteen members of the Ferry County Search and Rescue Team (SAR) completed Avalanche Awareness training with Keith Wakefield, retired winter recreation specialist with the Forest Service. The training was conducted in the Colville National Forest using realistic avalanche conditions. Members completed a variety of training exercises including terrain, snow pack, weather and human variables; avalanche terrain classification; hasty pits and compression tests for snow stability; searching using beacons; and probing and shoveling techniques.


FCSAR Team Provides Security at Curlew Fire

Curlew, WA Dec. 22-23. Members of the Ferry County Search and Rescue Team (FCSAR) assisted the Sheriff's Department at the site of the Old Curlew School fire. Members provided security during the night and assisted ATF personnel with recovery efforts.

 

 
FCSAR Team Completes Outdoor Winter Training

Republic, WA Jan. 16-17. Twelve members of the Ferry County Search and Rescue Team (SAR) recently conducted a two day field training in the Colville National Forest. Members completed a variety of training seminars including search management and mission planning; winter safety and first aid; emergency shelter building; evacuation using rope belays; snowmobile safety and GPS training.

Ferry County Search and Rescue is based in Ferry County, in the northeast corner of Washington state. The all-volunteer Search and Rescue Team is part of the Ferry County Sheriff's office and provides a critical service to all residents and visitors to Ferry County. Search and rescue is a life-saving skill that demands dedication, training, and specialized equipment. Approximately 30 members of the Ferry County Search and Rescue Team are trained in rural and wilderness environments and strive to be a well-prepared squad ready to respond...
